A Review of I.S./I.R.C. Code Provisions Regarding Material Used for Prestressed Concrete Bridges

The paper reviews relevant provisions of I.S. and I .R .C . Codes & Specifications regarding some important materials being used in India for construction of Prestressed Concrete Bridges. Comparatively much lesser attention has been given in I .R .C . Codes & Specifications regarding materials of Prestressed Concrete Bridges. Hence, frequently Bridge Engineers concerned are consulting relevant I.S. Codes & Specifications & also other literatures for design & construction of such bridges. I.S. 1343-1960 code provisions have much wider coverage for both Post-tensioned & Pre-tensioned Prestreseed Concrete Structures including bridges (CI. 6. 7. 8 has a specific reference). The paper suggests also some improvements of the provisions & Co-ordination between these codes & specifications for preventing wastage, reduction & economic use of materials concerned.
