The acute shortage of housing is gradually becoming chronic and unlese faster and better methods of construction are adopted, the solution of the housing problem might become prac ically impossible. The present paper describes the Siporex method of modular construction based on extensive construction built in and around the Bombay- Poona area. It also brings out the salient features in savings of time, materials and money and also the stringent control on quality. The paper depicts that the day is near, when by adopting this method, many dovetailing building operations on the site, with inevitable risk of delays, stacking and wastage of conventional building materials such cs steel, cement, timber etc. could be eliminated.
The paper stresses the importance of planning and the sequence of construction for achieving speed and further economy. The article also brings out special characteristics of Siporex components whereby they could be made use of in different systems of industrial construction and housing.
