Soil Moisture & Density Determination Through Nuclear Equipment

The characteristics of the soils are deter mined by two basic properties namely Physical and Strength properties. The physical properties like grain size distribution, Atterberg’s limits and indices are useful in identification and classification of soils. Strength properties of soil determined by shear tests, bearing tests and penetration tests are of significance in evaluation strength of subgrade base-course and foundations of structures. Most of the classical studies in soil-mechanics reveal that moisture content plays an important role in determining the physical properties of soil and moisture density relation ships of soil have marked effect on compaction of sub-grade or foundation layers,consolidation of foundations and stability of slopes in cutting and embankment.
