Breach at Kulgachi

In this issue we are fortunate in having from Mr. K. B. Banerjee Exec. Eng., Designs Division, Irrigation & Waterways Directorate, West Bengal, for publication a description of the problems arising out of the Breach of the Embankment at kulgachi in 1953 and the efforts made since then for its closure. Many members will remember with pleasure the visit they had under the auspices of the Association of Engineers in 1955 to the site of the breach: the great care and attention with which they were received by Mr. Banerjee and his staff who took them round to all the points of interest and explained so lucidly and minutely the details of all the problems met with and the efforts made to solve them; the enjoyable trip by motor lanch to the site and the sumptuous feast provided for them both before and after the rounds.
