India's second atomic reactor was inaugurated by Prime Minister jawaharlal Nehru on the 16th January 1961. It became "critical" and went into operation on the l0th July, 1960, at the Atomic Energy Establishment in Trombay, near Bombay, near the first reactor, Apsara, which has been in operation since 1956. A third, Zerlina, is under construction.
