In this issue we publish a paper on Calcutta Drainage read before the Association of Engineers on 16th July, 1962 by Sri K. B. Banerjee, from whom we had another paper on the historical aspects of Calcutta. It will be noted how increase of population beyond expectations had caused serious problems which appear almost insoluble due to want of a suitable outfall to replace the rapidly deteriorating existing outfall.
