Abstract

This paper tries to identify these factors by undertaking a decomposition analysis with reference to area, yield and combined of both area as well as yield. The here there are two situations for change in production. Firstly the change in production is positive i.e. if average production of terminal years are more than average production of initial years.Secondly the change in production is negative i.e. if average production of terminal years are less than average production of initial. In both the cases the first expression is the area effect, the second expression gives the yield effect and third expression gives the interaction effect of area with yield. The cumulative effect of area, yield and interaction will be hundred in percentage term. Initial and terminal triennial average of area production and yield of selected crops of Rajasthan are divided into two periods 1995-96 to 2004-05 first period 2005-06 to 2014-15 second period and calculated area effect, yield effect and interaction effect through decomposition model. It could be observed the change in production has been positive for crops like Bajra, maize, barley, moth, urad, moong, groundnut, soybean, sesame, rapeseed and mustard, castor, coriander, fenugreek, cumin, garlic and chilli over the time. On other hand the change in production over time was found negative in paddy, wheat, gram, arhar, linseed, cotton, sugarcane and guar.

Abstract

The effect of area and yield on the production of major crops of the state was assessed by compound growth rates of area, production and productivity. The growth in production of cereals recorded positive and significant at 1 per cent level of significance at the rate of 4.00 per cent per annum largely due to positive and significant at 5 per cent level of significance growth in productivity by 2.70 per cent per annum. The growth in production of pulses recorded positive and non-significant at the rate of 2.19 per cent per annum it is also positive and non-significant growth in productivity by 1.77 per cent whereas growth in area increased by 0.79 per cent per annum which is positive and nonsignificant. Oilseeds were recorded positive and significant at 1 per cent level of significance at the rate of 2.03, 4.29 and 3.08 per cent per annum, respectively growth in area, production and productivity. The productivity of cash crops recorded positive and significant at 1 per cent level of significance with annual growth at the rate of 3.29 per cent which is attributable by significant at 5 per cent level of significance growth in area by 5.03 per cent per annum. The production of spices recorded a positive and significant at 1 per cent level of significance annual growth at the rate of 4.14 per cent which was largely attributable by significant at 1 per cent level of significance growth in area by 3.64 per cent per annum with 1.07 per cent positive and significant growth of productivity.

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted on seasonal pattern of prices of soybean in selected district of Southern Rajasthan. For workout the seasonal pattern, secondary data was collected from 2000 to 2014 from publish government sources. Four markets were selected from four selected district namely Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Banswara. Pearson correlation co-efficient (r) was calculated between market arrivals and prices of soybean for different years. The correlation coefficient between monthly arrivals and prices of soybean were negative in all the markets. This reveals that prices of soybean are governed by factors such as presence of processing units and competition prevailing between purchasers etc. in addition to the arrival of the crop. Correlation co-efficient for all the markets in the corresponding months were significant at 1 or 5 per cent level of significance. Thus, monthly arrivals of soybean and wholesale prices were significantly and negatively correlated in the corresponding months. The pattern of prices of soybean in different seasons showed that farmers got maximum higher price by sale of soybean in lean season over the sale in peak season. Thus, the carrying of soybean to the mid and lean seasons of the year is advantageous for the producer farmers.
