Abstract

In this paper we report synthesis and luminescence study of Sr₂CeO₄:0.5% Eu³⁺, 1.0% Gd³⁺. Phosphors were synthesized via Modified solid state Diffusion method. The crystallite phase, microstructure and morphology of resulting particles were studied by X-ray diffraction. The emission spectrum of Sr₂CeO₄ 0.5% Eu³⁺, 1.0% Gd³⁺. Phosphors consist of three peaks at on main emission peak over lapping peaks with good intensity at 467, 491, 511, 537, 557, 587 and 616 nm are observed. The CIE co-ordinates were calculated by the spectrophotometric method using the spectral energy distribution of Sr₂CeO₄ and Sr₂CeO₄ doped Eu and Gd. In particular Sr₂CeO₄:0.5% Eu³⁺, 1.0% Gd³⁺ when excited at 275 nm, shows bluish white light emission, which has CIE color coordinates x=0.33, y=0.36. From this it is conclude that the Sr₂CeO₄:0.5% Eu³⁺, 1.0% Gd³⁺ phosphor has potential for applications in display devices.
