Energy Analysis and Design Comparison of VRV System of a Building with Split Air-Conditioning System

Variable refrigerant Volume (VRV) is an air-condition system configuration where there is one outdoor condensing unit and multiple indoor units. The term variable refrigerant volume refers to the ability of the system to control the amount of refrigerant flowing to the multiple evaporators (indoor units), enabling the use of many evaporators of differing capacities and configurations connected to a single condensing unit. The arrangement provides an individualized comfort control, and simultaneous heating and cooling in different zones. VRF systems are available either as heat pump systems or as heat recovery systems for those applications where simultaneous heating and cooling is required. In addition to providing superior comfort, VRF systems offer design flexibility, energy savings, and cost effective installation. The industries and commercial establishment are experiencing the need of air conditioning. The paper material has been prepared to help to meet this by providing the fundamental Processes and procedures. For the completion of this paper an easy and simple methodology is adapted. For the calculation purpose very useful and relevant handbook of ASHRAE and CARRIER is used. The heat load calculation of the building was done by the use of the Hourly Analysis Program (HAP). After that on the basis of tones of Refrigeration (TR) we have selected the indoor VRV Units (Ceiling Mount Duct Type, Hi wall mounted type) from the Daikin VRV III and VRV IV. On the basis of the total tones of Refrigeration (TR) the outdoor units are selected. In this work we have made a comparison in the selection of indoor units of VRV and Split Type System units.
