Abstract
Food is one the basic necessities of life and food safety is a matter that affects anyone who eats food. Ensuring safe and healthy food is essential for improving quality of human life globally. Improving the safety of food supply and reducing food borne diseases require a concerned effort by all stakeholders from farm to table. A perusal of the number of food borne disease outbreaks during 1984-88 from the Institute of Tropical Disease, Hyderabad, indicated that on an average 135 outbreaks occurred, affecting 865 people annually.
