Abstract

Apart from the fact that leaf protein contains a high amount of crude protein (around 60 per cent), a fundamental factor which will define its nutritive value is the amino acid composition of this protein. The introduction of automated systems for determining amino acids has led to an accurate definition of amino acid content of feeds.

Abstract

It is now generally agreed that over a third of the world population is underfed. The FAO reckoned that in developing countries (which contain above 66 percent of the world population) about 20 per cent of the people are undernourished, in the sense that they are receiving too few calories; and about 60 per cent have diets that are not balanced, ie. diets deficient in specific nutrients.

Abstract

Nigeria is predominantly an agricultural country and most of the foreign exchange is derived from agriculture. The country is blessed with a luxuriant growth of plants, some are harmful while some, though safe could be toxic if not properly prepared.
