Abstract

In an earlier paper from this laboratory studies carried out to determine the extraction of protein from blackgram seeds under various parameters like successive extraction with different extractants, particle size, ratio of sample to solvent, pH and temperature have been reported. It has been reported that germinated pulses are a good source of vitamin C. Blackgram seed is a rich source of lysine (7'36 g/16g N). As a follow-up of the earlier work it was of interest to study the vitamin C and available lysine contents of the seeds germinated for different periods of time.

Abstract

Oilseed meals provide an economical and nutritionally valuable source of protein in the formulation of mixed foods and feeds because of the quality and quantity of the protein they contain. Legume and cereals in a similar way constitute an important dietary source of protein for a large segment of the world's population, particularly in countries where animal protein is in short supply.

Abstract

There are about five crores of sugar yielding palm trees in India. They are mostly Date (Phoenix sylvestris), Palmyra (Borassus flabellifer) and Sago (Caryota urens). The palmyra and date trees number about four crores and one crore respectively. Out of these, only about a quarter are tapped and about 134,000 tons of jaggery are made.
