Meal pattern consists of breakfast, lunch, evening tea and snacks and dinner. Meal frequency depends on the number of times (one/two/three/four) the meals are taken and the food habits of people in the particular region of the country. Earlier, diet surveys conducted among families or individuals have taken into consideration both meal pattern and frequency in arriving at total day's Intake. Traditionally lunch and dinner are considered to be heavy meals, while breakfast and evening tea and snacks are light meals.- Relative Importance of Factors Associated with Duration of Lactation in Mothers of Better Socioeconomic Status

Among several methods of diet survey, classical weighment method (i. e., weighment of raw foods) has been followed by several workers, for assessing the family dietary intake. This method involves actual weighment of raw foods (edible portions) before cooking. This has been considered to be accurate for assessing food consumption but, it is laborious, and time-consuming and is much dependent on the availability of foods at home.- Nutritional Anthropometry of Indian Adults

Earlier studies have shown that weight for height (%) and weight/height to be good indices closely associated with the current nutritional status of infants and pre-school children. Weight/height was also observed to be a better index associated with body build of school children. Indices such as weight/height and weight/height were also suggested for use.- Socio - Economic Conditions, Diet and Nutrient Intake of Working and Non - Working Lactating Mothers Attending Maternity and Child Health (MCH) Centres

Anthropometric indices like height and weight are frequently used in the evaluation of nutritional status and growth performance of infants and children. For proper interpretation of these data, correct assessment of the ages of the children is a pre-requisite. It is the general experience of field workers that assessment of correct ages of children, specially in rural communities is beset with difficulties since documentary evidence of dates of birth is rarely kept. Also, due to ignorance and illiteracy, many mothers in rural areas are unable to recall the dates of birth of their children. However, they are often able to provide information regarding the birth of the child in relation to some local event or festival.- The Effect of Socio-Economic Differences on the Dietary Intake of Urban Population in Hyderabad
