Abstract
"Food as Medicine" has been the basic premise since times immemorial. Even modern medicine has recognized the therapeutic role of many plant based foods. There is an increasing awareness among the scientists that both nutrient and non nutrient components of the diet may play a significant role in management of several chronic and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, cardio vascular diseases, cancer and cataract.
