Abstract

Leading Indian fabricators are using submergedarc welding process extensively for carbon and low alloy steels. Mostly, they depend upon imported wire and flux for welding of pressure vessels and boilers. However, they are hesitant to extend this process for austenitic steels also.

Abstract

The Trichv unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. is equipped to manufacture a wide range of power boilers, industrial boilers, high pressure valves etc. Very recently this unit faced a challenging job of manufacturing an Ethylene dichloride reactor vessel in which the weld joints were subject to a rigorous halogen leak test. A very sensitive halogen leak detector was used to test the joints. The challenge was met and the reactor was successfully manufactured.

Abstract

The increasing tempo of power generation in India has resulted in the starting of basic industry for the manufacture of power house equipment. The Heavy Electrical unit at Bhopal and the Bharat Heavy Electricals' units at Hardwar, Hyderabad and Tiruchy will together meet the requirements of large power houses. The Tiruchy Unit, in particular, has an annual manufacturing capacity of 0.8 million KW power generation equipment.
