Hyperuricaemia is a disorder of purine metabolism which is frequently encountered in the clinical setting. The current in vitro study aims at finding out the effect of dietary purine intake on serum uric acid levels and the efficacy of Centella asiatica for treating this condition. Male Wistar rats of Group C, P and PT received stock diet, stock diet+fish roe (5g/day), stock diet+fish roe (5g/day)+Centella asiatica (150mg/kg) paste respectively. In PT group, serum uric acid decreased as compared to P, and it was comparable to C group. The herb also showed positive effect on liver function tests. It can be concluded that Centella asiatica can act as a potent herbal remedy in hyperuricaemia as well as gout.Keywords
