Prediction of geological problems is complex in nature. Multidisciplinary approach is deemed necessary to understand such enigmatic problems. Economically exploration of the ore is very crucial in mining. Trend surface analysis - a geostastical technique is useful in mine valuation studies and definitely sheds the light in this direction to delineate economically viable zones for the development of the mines. Keywords

The pods are identified on the satellite imagery of the Kolar schist belt as well as on the composite map prepared, based on six Landsat images covering the important gold field areas. The relation between the mineralization and the pods has been ascertained. The need to identify the paleo drainage pattern to locate potential placer deposits and the study of the pods individually using image processing techniques are emphasized.

Prediction of geological problems is complex in nature especially so in the world famous Kolar gold mines. Multidisciplinary approach is deemed necessary to understand such enigmatic problems. Gold values from the vein located the western side of Glenshoot in champion reef mine, a part of Kolar gold mines measuring 2000′ x 3000′ are utalised in the present analysis. The vein, in the question is in champion reef mine of the Kolar gold fields. Each data matrix consists of 35 x 20 i.e., 700 nodal values on gold assay, assay width and accumulation respectively. On this data set image processing, logical and morphological techniques were applied to unravel the nature of mineralization. The findings, hopefully shed new light in understanding the mineralization patterns and thereby tracing of new veins for overall enhancement in the production.
