Whenever one thinks about materials that one uses in one’s everyday life, one cannot lose sight of the nearly all - encompassing materials called polymers finding outlets as (i) Plastics (various moulded objects, films, laminates, electrical and electronic gadgets, pipes, tube and rods, storage tanks and bins, bottles and carboys, cables and wire coatings etc.) (ii) Rubbers (tyres and tubes, beltings, hoses, coated fabrics and sheets, footwears, foams and microcellular objects, etc.), (iii) fibres, yams, cords, ropes, tows and fabrics, and also as various types of (iv) adhesives, coatings and composites1

History of the advent of the polymer science and of the phenomenal growth in the technology and applications of polymeric materials over the past 75-90 years has been traced. Emergence of poly mer-based materials compounded with a host of different other ingredients to make them depend able materials suited for applications as rubbers, plastics, fibres, adhesives, encapsulates, laminates and composites and as chemical and bio-sensors and the structure-property relationships have been highlighted. Emerging trends of synthesis of newer polymers with new range of sturctures suited to new range of applications, and polymer’s possible role in power generation and the technology approaches for such transformations and possibilities have been highlighted.- Know More of Plastics

Since the dawn of human civilization man has alwas been in the search of newer and newer types of materials with tailor-made physical, thermal, mechanical, electrical, chemical and other properties. Polymer is one such type. It is a macro- molecule—a giant molecule compared to the heaviest molecule known. Different types of rubbers, plastics and fibres— that are becoming more and more popular, in our daily life and in industrial scene as well, because of their economy, durability and aestheties—all belong to polymer.- Power Polymers: Our Real Hope for Sustainable Power Package
