Those who are engaged in design, or design modification and subsequently in fabrication of high voltage transmission lines face difficult)' as there is no properly constructed computer programme for the task. In this paper, the principle of design of HV transmission lines has been vividly discussed and algorithm developed for computer-aided design. The programme includes both electrical and mechanical design and effects like corona losses. Steps for analysis of the transmission line before it is erected have also been given. Two case studies have been made, one on medium and another on long transmission line with this programme and have been given at the end of this paper.

In this paper, the results of load flow studies on a fictitious 6-bus system under conditions of large reactive power burden and reactive power mismatch have been presented. With increasing reactive power burden and reactive power mismatch, it has been noted that the voltage profile becomes poorer and poorer eventually leading to voltage collapse. Even before a collapse, the voltage profile becomes unacceptably poor. All bus voltages fall below 0.95 p.u. It has been indicated that the load flow must be planned with a look to this phenomenon. The role of series and shunt compensators has also been highlighted in this context.
