Spirituality deals with spirit and is nothing but the development of our inner being for achieving success, fulfillment and peace in life. It the identity of our inner being, in contrast the religion is the outer being. Albert Einstein once said: Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value. The former requires mere intelligence which can be corrupt, but to be a man of value takes character in the first place. The same is reflected what the famous wise men of the west William James, Carl Jung, and Victor Frankl saw long ago. Spiritual intensity can be guessed from personal life-patterns and the values he upholds. The values are based on truths both subjective and objective. Eastern scripture, Bhagvad Gita defines spirituality is the swabhav of everybody. It calls the whole field of spiritual practices as spiritual (adhyatma) i.e. which dwells in everybody. The aim of spiritual life is to upgrade oneself to go beyond this dual and fragmented world. Actually our entire life is a spiritual journey. The article is an attempt how human can improve life-style with it and the same is discussed with the following topics.- International Seminar on Science and Spirituality:Bridges of Understanding

For spirituality one needs subjective transformation and this requires prolonged rigorous spiritual practice for many years and a genuine spiritual experience must transform the very character of the experiencer.References

The teachings of Swami Vivekananda are echoes of messages in our Upanishads which talks of human values and so has a universal appeal not restricted in time and space i.e. are not confined to a century or restricted to any country or sect. They still continue to be relevant all over the world to all aspects of our life. He was a man of exceptional capability to comprehend and assimilate the philosophy and sciences, so he could foresee both the developments of physical and biological sciences. The present article is an attempt to project an integral view on education with due emphasis on spiritual values both for development of character and intuition in man-making education eliminating thereby the barrier between the sacred and secular knowledge.

Aging of the body, just like aging of a machine, is merely a maintenance problem and so the aging could perhaps be postponed indefinitely by thorough and frequent maintenance. It is true that the human body is a machine, but not like any man-made machine. It is a self-moving, self-regulating, and self-adjusting, vital machine governed by will-power and intelligence. Ageism brings on a cascade of ills and health problems leading to deterioration of physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions of life. But there has been a significant increase in average lifespan expectancy in the developed world over the last two centuries. Without a meaningful reason for existence, the purpose of life becomes simply to die. Examining the scientific perspectives on ageing, the different manipulations for extension of ageing are discussed like Calorie Restriction, Vitamin and Antioxidant Treatment, Exercise in Humans and Hormonal Interventions. Finally the question of longevity is explored philosophically both objectively and subjectively through pursuance of eternal value-based activity and spirituality in the tradition of Indian heritage.

Our brain and heart are two important body organs for storage of knowledge that determine our life-style. After separately discussing the inherent capabilities and qualities of brain and heart, the features of development individually are elaborated starting from physical picture to some basics of spirituality as is essential for meaningful life. Life is possible for him who has brain, but with only brains dies of dryness. One who is carried along by his heart alone has to undergo many ills, and is liable to tumble into pitfalls. Eastern scriptures stress the need for acquirement of both brain-based and heart-based knowledge for full-fledged development of human being. Starting from known physical pictures, described in laymen's term using philosophical ideas from renowned scientist-philosophers and ancient philosophers it is argued that ultimate success in life is determined by their balance, even though brain works under causality while heart's activity is acausal in nature. Heart is the seat of spiritual knowledge, and by acquiring some of the basic spiritual qualities like morality, restricting one's worldly passions, practice of pranayam one can improve quality of life.

Mind is mysterious to all of us. If our minds were the same as our bodies, how could they survive the annihilation of those bodies? Our five sense organs provide inputs from the environment around that is interpreted and stored in our mind. Our thoughts, sentiments, mood and emotions produce strong impressions on the face which is like an advertisement board depicting what is going on inside the mind. Sometimes it follows the law of causality but not always. So logic is not the basic mechanism of this mind. Being human we have to accept the limitations of the sense organs to fathom complexities.

Science is unable to offer any plausible explanation in various cosmic and worldly affairs of prime importance especially on the creation of the universe through Big Bang, creation of life, increase of orderliness in the world, and keeping life-parameters fine-tuned for habitation. The biological complexity cannot be generated by chance or natural processes. All these prove the presence of super mind behind the universe.

The article cocerns the development of human-self which forms the human personality. The feeling of having a personal identity is known as the ego. Ego cannot be seen as the physical body is, though there are many selves or surrogate selves operating in the same person This is developed right from childhood till matured man in four stages: physical body, intellect, morality and finally spirituality. Vedanta recognizes two dimensions of self: the ego or the lower self and the higher or transcendent inner self. This is elaborated and finally the method of yoga has been discussed.References

Life is full of problems and uncertainties; one wrong decision is enough to ruin a man’s career and peace of mind. Carl Jung noted philosopher of the last century said ‘The higher the plane of consciousness we attain, the greater becomes our knowledge and power to deal with the problems of life’. Analyzing the deficits of our senses and intellect covered with illusion and inborn prejudices, the author arrives how our power of discrimination is ‘coloured’ and our intuitive power is obstructed in dealing with crucial problems at important junctures of life. Finally it is with the holistic knowledge and wisdom acquiring with the so-called chitta-suddhi as is elaborated in our various scriptures one can regain clarity of vision so as to lead a successful and peaceful life. Swami Vivekananda said ‘we only deserve things when they have ceased to bind us.References

The vast majority of man foolishly thinks that he can make himself happy through attachments with his own body and senses. The higher and more cultured a man, the more pleasure he finds in intellectual and other higher pursuits True happiness can be got by resisting our passions, and not by obeying them. It is a subjective affair. It is within. Real happiness can only be attained through freedom, neither in wealth, not even in power. One requires feeling to implement of what is thought to be right, when the purity is developed in heart devoid of bias and prejudices. It is the training and judicious control of senses, mind and upgrading to the spirit of consciousness that can make real progress to attain true happiness. Keywords
