Modern engineering education in China started developing in early 20th century and it gained momentum after the birth of the People's Republic in 1950. After some ups and downs in the engineering education system during the period from 1950 to the end of the cultural revolution in 1976, the engineering education recovered rapidly. It is a new stage in course of development, and systematic measures have been adopted for improving the quality of engineering education even in collaboration with industrially advanced countries of the world since the government adopted an open policy to the outside world.
