Sediments come from multiple sources by erosion, weathering and transportation by different medium and accumulated in a basin to form sedimentary rocks. So, it is a mix product of different sources. The original source of the sediments and their transportation mechanism are known as provenance. By studying those sediments we will be able to find out the actual provenance, not only the lithologic origin but also the composition of their parent rock, depositional history and different tectono-climatic conditions during their deposition. So, in a large scale it will help to reconstruct the tectonic, paleo-grographic and paleo-climatic history over time.
