Standards are being used for construction of thesauri from their inceptions. Previously thesauri were designed and maintained manually. But the advancement of ICT gives us the opportunity to execute the same through machine-readable environment. To incorporate thesaurus database electronically, the thesaurus standards also changed accordingly over the time. Concept of data model has emerged for efficient utili2ation of knowledge organization systems like classification schemes, subject taxonomies and thesauri. New standards are enable to guide in designing and maintaining thesaurus in digital environment and also make them interoperable among various platforms by using SKOS as domain model and XML as lingua fianca. The SKOS-compatible thesaurus standard also supports multilinguality in Unicode based data processing environment. Community information means the information related to the daily livelihood of a group of people. Community information service is the tool to provide community information. To search relevant information in networked era proper search terms (along with network of terms) are necessary. Suitable controlled vocabularies are necessary for the purpose of efficient retrieval of community information resources. Controlled vocabularies play a two-fold role, one in indexing the concepts and another in searching the information at the time of retrieval.Keywords

Describes briefly the Indian higher educational system mentioning various types of universities having their websites. Web presence of Indian universities has been discussed in general and central universities in particular. Webometric data have been collected mainly through Yahoo! search engines using special query syntax. An attempt has been made to rank central universities in India using appropriate webometric indicators. Results revealed that based on WISER ranking University of Delhi gets top rank; Sikkim University occupied the last rank among central universities in India. The study also examined the link relationship through inlinks and outlinks among central universities using personal web crawler i.e. SocSciBot 3.0. The reason for hyper-linking is traced among the universities under study. . Finally, co-link matrix was formed to detect the link pattern among the central universities in India.Keywords

Bibliometrics deals with the quantitative aspects of print documents. Webometrics deals with the application of informetric and other quantitative techniques for the analysis of Web documents. This article briefly describes the trend from bibliometrics to webometrics. Also discusses some important application areas of Webometrics research, the methodology adopted for data collection, techniques and tools of Web analysis and the problems encountered in Webometric research. Methods of computing Web Impact Factors and highlights the research possibility in Webometric study are considered. A webometric case study of 13 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) is presented. The analysis shows that the IIT, Bombay occupies the first place among the 13 IITs and the IIMs based on both absolute and logarithm values.Keywords
