This paper analyzes the impact of research contributions of South Indian LIS teachers using citation analysis method. The research output of South Indian LIS teachers published in various national and international journals, conference proceedings, books since 1950s have been collected as available in Google Scholar. It is a known fact that Google Scholar is yet to become a comprehensive database of scholarly literature. So the data sample collected for the study would have some limitations with respect to the comprehensiveness of the data. However, authors believe that the sample available from Google Scholar is sufficient for conducting citation analysis studies. Research contributions of South Indian LIS teachers have been analysed and results are reported with appropriate inferences. 1909 research papers published by the South Indian LIS teachers form the basic data for the study. The number of research papers being published is increasing sharply in recent years. About half of the data collected (48.40%) for the study is in the form of articles published in journals. While DRTC and Karnatak University occupy top two positions in number of articles published. University of Mysore is a close competitor for the second position. Articles from SRLES (28.45%) and Information Studies (9.63%) are visible in Google Scholar more than other journals. 'Organization of Information' and 'Bibliometrics' are the most favoured area of research for South Indian LIS teachers. The study also reports the most cited articles of South Indian LIS teachers. As one could expect Neelameghan, Karisiddappa and Ravichandra Rao occupy the first three positions in the h-index ranking of teachers.Keywords

This paper presents the findings of a citation analysis study, the impact of S.R.Ranganathan's (SRR's) seminal works, namely. Five laws of library science, Prolegomena to library classification, and Colon classification. More specifically the objective was to quantify the impact of SRR's works through citation analysis, and to study the citation pattern to SRR's works. Google Scholar (GS) was the major data source for the study. We searched the GS during the first week of Decembet 2008 SRR was a prolific writer with over 50 books and over 1000 articles) OS's 894 citations, of which more than half (54.8%) is accounted for by the three books of SRR just mentioned.. Presents .ranked list of authors citing SRR's three works, their affiliation the periodicals in which these authors have published and related statistics.Keywords

The present study examines the issues related to the role of the library in promoting reading habits of professional and non professional students. The issues studied are the students' dependency on libraries, items that they read, and other factors that inspire them to develop their reading habits. A total of 1757 professional and non-professionals students from 52 colleges served as the sample for the present study. The data was collected by questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and Chi square were applied to find out the difference between course type and gender on various issues. Results show that overall non-professional students were more dependent on libraries and were more positive about librarians and libraries than professional students. Suggestions to improve reading habits are also discussed. Factors like motivation through library orientation: library services relating to current events, journal articles, newspaper clippings library hour, book display and personal dialogue by library staff and other factors that improve reading habits are discussed.References
