Personal transport currently accounts for 25-30% of global CO2 emissions, increase in the pollution level, enormous demand for fuel and in turn a drastic increase in the external balances of the country. It also adds to the domestic inflationary pressures. The main objective of this study is to reduce the carbon emission in Tamil Nadu by increasing the utilization of the mass transit vehicles and by reducing the usage of personal vehicles. The numbers of mass transit vehicles, personal vehicles, per kilometer vehicle density, total length of the road were considered as the major factors for the study. A simulation was conducted to estimate the level of carbon emission and fuel consumption of both the personal as well as mass transit vehicles for a per kilometer usage in a district of Tamil Nadu in India. In the simulation process, different scenarios were assessed to determine the efficient and less carbon emitting commuting system and the results show that a meager 10% shift of commuters from personal vehicles to mass transit vehicles can result in huge carbon reduction. These simulations provide a supporting guideline to both the transport corporation and the pollution control board for creating a better commuting system and cleaner environment in Tamil Nadu.Keywords

Agrarian based Indian economy currently turned into a service based economy. Liberalization of Indian economy as well as present government's retail sector policy paves way for big organized retailers' to enter and also expand in the Indian retail market. Currently Indian retail market is dominated by unorganized, family owned kiranas, which hold almost 88% market share. Entry of new big organized players and expansion of existing big players will bring in conflict of interest with the currently dominating kiranas, who provide major employment. This paper discusses about adaptation of coopetition strategy by big organized retailers and kiranas, mainly to mitigate such conflict of interest. As per the strategy, organized big retailers will be the wholesaler for kiranas and kiranas will be the last mile distributor for the big player. Information Communication Technology (ICT) shall bridge the organized and unorganized retailers and play a major role in implementing coopetition strategy. A study was conducted among 272 Kiranas of southern districts of Tamil Nadu to check the feasibility of coopetition strategy. From the study, it is found that most of the Kiranas are ready to adapt "Coopetition strategy". This strategy will curtail the big organised retailers' investments in distribution network. At the same time kiranas will not lose their proximate customers business, even if the customer's order their requirements through E-retail system.Keywords

Tamil Nadu is one of the states in India that has an excellent transportation system. In the recent past, there is a wide gap in the development of Public and Personal commuting system. The daily usage ratio of these two modes is 0.2:99.8. This leads to an inefficient and ecologically degrading system of transportation. A study on the daily commuting pattern of people and their intention for a modal shift was done. Based on their intention, it is attempted to find a possible ecofriendly change in the road transportation for Tamil Nadu. The results are encouraging. The study is done with a survey on modal shift intention in select districts of Tamil Nadu and is evaluated with an adopted simulation for the carbon emission reduction along with economic and environmental benefits. The outcomes are significant for the entire country as it evidences a favourable economic and ecofriendly road commuting with a considerable reduction in the fuel consumption.Keywords

This paper presents and tests a theoretical model of person-organization (P-O) fit and its antecedents among 243 employees working in a wrist watch manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu. The interaction of the variables of P-O fit were analysed for the different demographics of employees who were grouped based on their gender, age, designation, educational qualification and work experience in the current organisation. Multiple linear regressions (MLR) were carried out for the different demographics of employees separately with all the antecedents together on the overall perception of P-O fit. Subsequently, to find the impact of the individual antecedents of P-O fit individually, simple linear regressions (SLR) were carried out and the results were compiled together. It was found that the impact of the antecedents on the P-O fit differs with the different employee demographics.Keywords

Carbon emission is the largest contributor to the phenomenon of global warming and petroleum products are the largest source of carbon emission into the environment. Carbon emission cannot be eliminated, but it certainly can be reduced to a greater extent by way of efficient utilization of petroleum products for the regular commute. This can be attained by creating changes in the current public commuting system and also by a policy change in public transport system. This study has been formulated to examine the pattern of commuting, attitude and behavioural intention of daily commuter towards public road transport system in Tamil Nadu. A survey was carried out in the districts under Trichy and Salem - Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) zone. A sample of 770 daily commuters were surveyed in selected corridors of Ariyalur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Tiruchirapalli, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Karur and Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) model was used to examine the behavioural intention of the daily commuters and to identify factors that contribute and influence commuters to use public transport. Results show that the attitude toward public transport is the most dominant factor compared with other constraints. Majority of the personal mode commuters agreed for switchover to the public transport if there are some improvements in certain aspects like additional bus service, routes and enhanced services, which shows an encouraging response for environmental consciousness. The outcomes of this study are significant as the results are showing a favourable possibility of less carbon emitting commuting system for Tamil Nadu.Keywords

This study focuses on the various antecedents influencing the satisfaction of customers consuming flavoured milk (FM) and also to find the differences in gender and location on the consumption of FM. In order to find the impact of the various antecedents individually on the consumers’ feeling of overall satisfaction on the flavoured milk of their choice, linear regression was conducted. Also, to find the impact of all the antecedents together on the overall opinion, multiple linear regression was carried out. The outcome of the analysis shows that impact of quality, taste and quantity respectively are the primary factors that influence the overall satisfaction on FM apart from other factors. An independent sample t–test was done to determine the gender difference and the locational influence on the preference of FM. It was found that there is no difference in the preference and satisfaction among gender and location of consumers.Keywords

Financial inclusion (FI) has received renewed attention of researchers and policy makers in all countries. FI refers to households accessing institutional credit including commercial banks, cooperative banks, self-help groups, and credible microfinance institutions. Many financially underprivileged people of the society are exploited by moneylenders at very high interest rates because they do not use the banking system. It is therefore necessary to design appropriate policy for FI. This review paper is part of a project sponsored by the ICSSR-IMPRESS. This project creates a model in which the opinion leaders and influencers such as panchayat ward members, panchayat presidents, and PDS workers of the underprivileged sections of the society are roped in to be educated on the benefits of using the mainstream financial instruments, thereby, making banks as their primary and major source of savings and financial transactions. This will enable them to escape from loan sharks, moneylenders, pawn brokers and lead an enriched life and help in the growth of our economy and nation.Keywords

The plight of street vendors (SV) is pitiful anywhere in India. NewspapeRs. carry articles about them encroaching the streets and disturbing traffic. However, their financial status and their daily existence is a struggle. The government on its part is doing its best for their upliftment through Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors’ Atmanirbhar Nidhi Yojana scheme. Getting the basic information about the daily income, family size, education, daily capital requirement and source on these SVs is in itself a big challenge. This article, a part of the Indian Council of Social Science Research – Impactful Policy Research in Social Science (ICSSR – IMPRESS) tries to understand the above mentioned basics in order to help the policy makeRs. do a better job. To carry out this study, 477 SVs were met and data was collected using a structured questionnaire in a span of six months. The study is split into two parts. The first part is the demographic description of the SVs and the second part is about the financial status of the SVs. From the study it was found that, majority of the SVs need a daily working capital of Rs. 201 to 300. Most have their savings as their major source of working capital followed by getting capital from money lenders Almost all of the SVs have a bank account but only one SV out of the entire sample of 477 has got loan from bank, while all the rest get money for their capital from money lenders Educating the SVs on the ills associated with borrowing money from money lenders through Public Distribution System (PDS) employees may be considered.Keywords

Traditional SERVQUAL may be quite sufficient for the measurement of service quality of banks. But this research aimed for a more practical approach in using the actual services offered by banks in measuring their service quality. For this research, customers’ satisfaction towards the services offered by private banks was considered. A total sample of 112 is taken from the customers of private banks. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire from the customers which included factors to get opinion on general customer service offered by the banks, security provided for investments and assets, interest rate offered for investments, access to other products offered by the banks apart from traditional services, loan facilities and locker facilities offered by these banks. Data description was done with percentages of the sample, while data was done using linear regression and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). From the outcome it was found that majority of the customers of private banks are satisfied with the services offered by the banks. There is a significant impact from the considered factors on the overall satisfaction of the customers on the services offered by these banks and there is no significant group difference among the gender and domicile of customers considered on their perception of overall satisfaction on the services offered by these banks. It was also found that there is a significant group difference on the opinion of overall satisfaction among customers differentiated by their age, educatio marital status and income.Keywords
