Generally medical images have narrow dynamic range of intensity levels and high noise. One such abdominal x-ray image has been taken for enhancement. This paper enhances the image by sharpening and by lime lighting more, the minute details of the bone structure present in the image. Actually the whole task has been accomplished with Laplacian filter to highlight fine details and with Sobel gradient to emphasize edges. To get the sharpened image, smoothed gradient image is used to mask the Laplacian image. Finally the dynamic range has been increased using gamma transformation.

Abstract

Generally medical images have narrow dynamic range of intensity levels and high noise. One such abdominal x-ray image has been taken for enhancement. This paper enhances the image by sharpening and by lime lighting more, the minute details of the bone structure present in the image. Actually the whole task has been accomplished with Laplacian filter to highlight fine details and with Sobel gradient to emphasize edges. To get the sharpened image, smoothed gradient image is used to mask the Laplacian image. Finally the dynamic range has been increased using gamma transformation.
