Identification of Senior Citizens' Expectations about Educational Activities

This survey was planned and conducted in order to identify senior citizens' expectations related to educational activities in terms of successful aging. The participants of the survey were 380 seniors selected by "Stratified Random Sampling" among 60-year-olds or older members of daytime elderly service centers and seniors clubs of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, in the province of Ankara. As a result of the survey, the participants stated that they can spend an average of 3.5 hours a week on educational activities. The expectations about educational activities include free or cheap prices, accessible locations, utilization of straightforward educational techniques, and tools that are appropriate for the age group and that are easy to understand. Among the females, free or cheap prices are at the top of the expectation list. The mean score of females in this expectation is higher than the mean score of males (p<0.001). Old men, on the other hand, mentioned experienced trainers and high quality education as their priorities. The mean score of males in this expectation is higher than the mean score of females (p>0.05).
