Abstract

Inherent advantages of brick masonry have made it popular in construction industries. Relatively low tensile strength of brick work has restricted its use to compression members only, this limitation can be eliminated by incorporating reinforcement in hollow brick masonry. Present investigation includes construction and testing of reinforced hollow brick column subjected to eccentric loading, results shows good correlation with the column design by limit state design method, also it is observed that the effect of reinforcement is significant. The composite action of bricks, grout and reinforcement controls the rate of crack development and prevent sudden and total collapse, the reinforcement reserve strength beyond first cracking.

Abstract

In order to investigate the possibilities of current FE programs for implementation of steel fibre concrete this study was conducted. The aim of this study was to show the use of steel fibre concrete with FE calculations, to point out the possibilities and restrictions and to give recommendations for practical usage. The finite element (FE) method offers a powerful and generic tool for studying the behaviour of structures. The power of the FE method is in its versatility. The structure analyzed may have arbitrary shape, arbitrary supports and applied tractions. Such generality does not exist in classical analytical methods, even when the structural geometry is simple.

Abstract

The efforts were made to understand the possible differences between plasticizers and super plasticizers. The result of tests conducted on concrete in the presence of plasticizers and superplasticizers. The objective was to observe the change in mechanical properties under the influence of plasticizers and superplasticizers at various dosages level. The result of the treated mix was compared with the control mix (mix without admixture). Observations were made on solid phases of concrete, to note the variation in properties at constant and reduce water cement ratio. From the experience and knowledge gained from this course of study both, plasticizers and super-plasticizers not only improved workability at constant water cement ratio but considerably enhanced the compressive strength at reduce water-cement ratio with slump remaining unchanged, At every stage superplasticizers were known to perform better than plasticizers.

Abstract

Low flexural tensile strength has number of undesirable consequences for its performance as an effective building material. These include necessity of auxiliary steel reinforcement and thick sectioned members that are both aesthetically unappealing and consume significant quantities of aggregates. An emerging technology with the potential to overcome these limitations is reactive powder concrete (RPC) RPC is a cold cast cementitious material in which the mechanical properties of the matrix are improved by suppression of the weak interfacial transition zone normally developed around the aggregate through improved particle packing and by refinement of the hydrated paste microstructure by extensive use pozzolanic silica and elevated temperature curing. Tensile capacity is provided by steel micro fibres rather than conventional reinforcement the low and non connected porosity of RPC also render extremely durable. RPC offers the possibility building with concrete with slender member with improved seismic response.
