Development of a Mobile Application for Reporting Public Utility Faults in Ruwa Township: Zimbabwe

The increase in population and urbanization mainly in Harare and its satellite towns have exerted pressure on existing water and sewer utilities leading to blockages and burst pipes thereby exposing the public to diseases. With the high frequency of these faults on the public service infrastructure networks, the faults may go for long periods of time unreported. Municipalities cannot cope with the rate of change using traditional unsustainable practices that are in use at present. Traditional methods of collecting and analyzing data are increasingly becoming inadequate as the information required to evaluate them becomes more complex. Thus, this development will provide the general public in Ruwa Township of Zimbabwe with a simple and convenient method of reporting public utility issues using their mobile devices.
