Intelligent Pigging of 48” diameter, 20 KM Offshore Crude Oil Pipeline at BPCL, Kochi, India

KEI-RSOS Maritime Limited (KRML)was entrusted byBharatPetroleumCorporationLimited(BPCL),IndiatocarryouttheIntelligentPiggingof48”diameter,20KMCrudeoiloffshorepipelinefromSTFtoSPMatKochiSPMfacility.KRMLinassociationwithM/s.3PServices,Germany,executedthepiggingprojectsuccessfully.ThemethodologyusedforthisprojectwasBi-directionalpigging,whichisthelatest&wascarriedoutfirsttimeinIndia.Thepaperdiscussesthedetailsoftheprojectincludingutilisationofcleaningpig,GEOpig,Intelligent(MFL)pigandourexperiences.Thepaperalsodiscussestheadvantages&thebenefitsofthetechnologyrelatedtoreductioninprojectexecutiontime&projectcost,simplicityofoperationandenvironmentalfriendliness.Thelimitationofthemethod&problemencounteredarealsodiscussedandshared,sothattheoffshoreindustrycantakebenefitfromourexperience, infuture.
