The Environmental Influence on Nigeria Distance Learners' Academic Performance: An Analysis of a Counsellor


 

This study was designed to find out the environmental influence on Nigeria distance learners' academic performance and the role of counseling. It endeavours to find out answers to some research questions like do the learning environment, home, surrounding noise, peer group or friends and parental background, influence the academic achievement of distance learners? The result reveals that only parental background or education does not have significant influence on the distance learner’s achievement. Counselling has concerned itself with assisting the student that is experiencing low achievement rate. Recommendations are highlighted to assist students with low achievement rate to enhance adjustment and improvement. A questionnaire was used as the major instrument to collect data for the research and a comprehensive analysis is done.
