Women in India have a status of being sub-ordinate to men. Men and women are not considered equal, men being the superior. The patriarchal set up of this country leads to gender specific socialization. Men learn to rule women form childhood, either directly or indirectly. Thus the cultural limitation in India often makes women think that all the atrocities done to them are fair. It is seen many a times that women themselves support violence against women, whether to themselves or to other women they know. Education is also a very important factor in determining how women take the abuse form others. Higher educational level seems to be a protective factor against domestic violence. Apart from these social supports, living area, employment, socio-economic status, family structure, husband's characteristics are considered important in determining in attitudes towards domestic violence in women and how they attribute the causes of domestic violence. Keywords

Materialism is the importance an individual attach to the worldly possessions, in the modern era all age groups are keen towards spending more on materialistic goods in order to fit in their social circle. All age groups are found to show a certain amount of materialistic orientation. Well-being of the individuals who are high on materialism is greatly diminished as compared to individuals who are not materialistic. Also, people with lower self-esteem tend to be more materialistic. Adolescents are highly materialistic and are greatly inclined towards brand consciousness. The available studies are cited in this review paper in order to develop an understanding of how materialism is linked with well- being, self-esteem and its prevalence in adolescence. Keywords

Life satisfaction is one of the key concepts that positive psychology studies. This article provides a review of the existing literature on the relationship between parenting style and life satisfaction among the adolescents. A parenting style is a psychological construct that incorporates various attitudes, behaviors and approaches used by parents while raising their children. Life satisfaction is an individual's appraisal of life as a whole rather than the feelings that are felt at a given instant. The way parents deal with their children has a major influence on children's perception towards life. The purpose of this review is to understand the impact of parenting styles on adolescents' life satisfaction. Various correlational studies have found that parenting style plays an important role in life satisfaction of the adolescents. Authoritarian parenting style leads to decline in the life satisfaction while authoritative, supportive and permissive parenting style improves the life satisfaction of the adolescents. Indulgent-neglectful parenting also lowers the life satisfaction of the adolescents. Directions for future research have also been discussed. Keywords

The current study expands on the existing literature on depression by taking cognizance of the gaps and limitations in the literature. The study includes both risk and protective factors in the context of depression among adolescents. Nine measures referring to Beck's Depression Inventory, Hopelessness Scale, Automatic Thought Questionnaire, Affective Dysregulation Inventory, IPAT Anxiety Scale Questionnaire, N- Scale of Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, Social Support Questionnaire, Hardiness Scale and Revised Life Orientation Test were administered to 400 adolescents, in the age range of 18-20 years, and selected from different colleges of Hisar (Haryana). Although regression analysis revealed evidence for three predictors (automatic negative thoughts, affective dysregulation, hopelessness) of depression, automatic negative thoughts emerged to be the most marked predictor, accounting for 34.3 percent out of 43.6 percent variance in depression. Affective dysregulation accounted for 5.5 percent of the variance. Noteworthy, the study has highlighted the target variables in depression among adolescents (late adolescence). Keywords
