Efficacy of Behaviour Modification Techniques on Emotional Health, Emotional Intelligence and Resilience among Working Women: A Study

The purpose of the study was to investigate the efficacy of behavioural techniques on emotional health, emotional intelligence and resilience among working women. Emotional health, emotional intelligence, and resilience play a vital role in determining the mental health of an individual. Emotional intelligence is knowing our own emotions as well as that of others, which is important in emotional health of an individual. When emotional intelligence is lower, the emotional health would be affected. Here, resilience helps to bounce back from negative situations and help to cope up with stress. Women being more at balancing between work and home are usually preoccupied with stress that weakens their performance at work and home, hence their mental health would affect badly. Thus, enhancing emotional health, emotional intelligence and resilience to overcome stress was the main objective of this study. We used the questionnaire Kindler's Personal Stress Assessment Inventory (Kindler, 1981) in order to determine the level of emotional health and resilience. Emotional Intelligence Scale (Petrides & Furnham, 2003) was used to assess the emotional intelligence. This is the study of ten working women within an organization, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Pre-intervention assessment of emotional health, resilience and emotional intelligence was performed by using Kindler's Personal Stress Assessment Inventory and Emotional Intelligence Scale, respectively. The subjects were administered the Behaviour Technology Module and were re-assessed after a period of eight weeks. The study results are statistically significant and indicate that the subject experienced significant improvement in overall mental health by increase in the level of emotional health, emotional intelligence and self-esteem.
