Usage Pattern of ASPP and POP Databases of IEEE at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar: An Appraisal

With the advancement of technology, availability of equipments and the various benefits of e-journals over printed journals University and lnstitutes of higher learning are now subscribing electronic information resources to meet out the informational requirements of their patrons. There is need to evaluate the usage of these databases as universities or other government's funding agencies have to pay a big amount to the publishers for subscribing the databases of electronic journals. The present study is an attempt to appraise the usage of ASPP and POP databases subscribed from IEEE. Month-wise use of data for the years 2014 and 2015 have been compared with regard to articles and papers downloaded, number of pages viewed from the website, number to visits and number of keywords used for searching the desired information. The study reports that 8450 articles have been downloaded during the spell of two years and 7320 keywords have been used to search the information. The facilities available in the university for accessing them formation and suggestions for improving the usage level have been discussed.
