The predicted resistance genes present in three common bean landraces KRC-5, KRC-8 and Jawala were validated for their reaction against Colletotrichum lindemuthianum races prevalent in Himachal Pradesh. The landrace KRC-5 showed resistance to 17 races (3, 7, 87, 179, 211, 238, 259, 437, 503, 513, 529, 537, 737, 775, 935, 957 and 1395) while landrace KRC-8, possessed resistance against 7 races viz., 17, 437, 513, 529, 737, 957 and 1395. In the inheritance test, F2/RIL populations obtained from Jawala X KRC-5 segregated into 3:1/1:1 ratio, further confirming the presence of single dominant resistance gene in land race KRC-5.Keywords

Organic enriched composts viz., himcompost, vermicompost, farm yard manure, poultry manure and NADEP and organic formulations namely cow urine, beejamrit, panchgavya, tamarlassi, vermiwash and biosol were evaluated against Fusarium wilt of chickpea caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris under in vitro conditions. Among all the organic formulations, Panchgavya showed maximum mycelial inhibition of 92.22 per cent followed by Biosol i.e. 72.22 per cent at 10 per cent concentration against the pathogen whereas, Tamarlassi was found least effective with 15.56 per cent mycelial inhibition. The extracts of all five organic composts showed antifungal properties against the pathogen even at 5 per cent concentration. At 25 per cent concentration Himcompost yielded maximum mycelial inhibition of 71.11 per cent followed by Vermicompost i.e. 65.27 per cent against the pathogen whereas, NADEP was found least effective i.e. 44.17 per cent inhibition. Hence, Himcompost and Panchgavya can be used as soil amendment and seed dresser, respectively for ecofriendly management of Fusarium wilt of chickpea.Keywords

A field experiment was conducted to screen rice genotypes against sheath rot during kharif 2019 under natural epiphytotic conditions at the farm of Rice and Wheat Research Center, Malan. Out of one hundred eight genotypes, ten genotypes exhibited moderately susceptible reaction while ninety eight showed susceptible reaction when categorized on the basis of disease incidence whereas when these genotypes categorized on the basis of disease index, five genotypes showed resistant reaction, twenty four showed moderately resistant reaction, sixty one showed moderately susceptible reaction and eighteen genotypes showed susceptible reaction while none of the genotypes was immune in any category.Keywords

Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) caused by fungus Exserohilum turcicum is most devastating maize foliar disease in North western Himalayan region of the world. The present investigations were carried out to screen the 70 medium maturing maize inbreds against TLB under artificial epiphytotic conditions.. The per cent disease index ranged from 13.3 - 80.0 and area under disease progressive curve was 300.0 - 1591.7 whereas apparent infection rate varied from 0.020 - 0.070. Based on disease rating scale, per cent disease index, AUDPC and apparent infection rate inbreds CML50, CML119, CML577, 36128, CML44 (OP), CML494, 9402-1, Bajim-08- 26, CML112, CML 292, 52303, LM 13, 1336-3, Bajim 06-17, CML563, Bajim 12-6, Bajim 12-6, CML 564, CML 31-1/CM112, V 6642, CML 112 WH 52323, Bajim 06-8, 30R-77, 52060, P358, 52154, 52200, Bajim 08-27 New Line, CML 33, CML 337, HKI1295, CML141 had lowest values for all pathological traits marked as resistant inbreds, whereas thirteen inbreds were reported moderately resistant. Results suggested that the inbreds found resistant to turcicum leaf blight might be utilized in future breeding program. Alternatively, the said promising inbreds might also be used as parents in hybridization in order to transfer the gene for resistance to existing adapted high yielding cultivars.Keywords
