Abstract

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are generally battery powered that makes the lifetime of the network a major concern. It combines various kinds of technologies including sensors, low power, communication and MEMS. RF transceivers for wireless sensor network applications need to fulfill the demands of low power consumption and, low cost of implementation which implies high level of integration. Hence CMOS process becomes the technology of choice. The focus of this paper is on the implementation of a 2.4GHz low power modulators for wireless sensor networks (WSN). Here the high performance low power modulators are designed using 0.18μm CMOS technology. The performance of the low power modulators is analyzed. The power consumed by the Quadrature Phase Shift Keying modulator (QPSK) is 2.41mW and for Phase Shift Keying modulator (PSK) is 7mW. In the case of QPSK modulator the result shows that 16.6 mW power is reduced compared to the existing methods.
