In MANETs many routing protocols are designed to optimize the battery power efficiently, in order to maximize the lifetime of a network. Some of the proposed solutions to utilize the energy are adjusting the transmission power of wireless nodes and some others tend to manage the sleep state for the mobile nodes. In this paper we aim to conserve much energy by improving the performance of the existing routing protocol known as Adaptive Energy Efficient and Reliable Gossip routing protocol (AEERG). We improved the performance of AEERG protocol by increasing the number of sleep nodes without affecting the reliability of the network. We introduced a counter P to represent the no of paths and timer T to calculate the arrival time. With the help of these counters only the shortest reliable path is activated while all other paths are deactivated by making the nodes of those paths into sleep state. By simulating the proposed protocol, we achieved better results in terms of throughput, packet delivery ratio and maximum energy utilization.
