Network simulation is a popular methodology adopted for evaluating the performance of new protocols for wireless networks or for enhancing the already existing network protocols before implementing them in the real world. The main reason of adopting this methodology is the cost and complexity involved in actual implementation. Simulator comes for the rescue by providing a virtual environment of the network comprising of nodes and links between them without incurring high costs. Selection of an appropriate simulator that suits one’s needs requires complete knowledge about them .This paper can aid the researchers in the selection of a simulator as per their requirements.

Abstract

Network simulation is a popular methodology adopted for evaluating the performance of new protocols for wireless networks or for enhancing the already existing network protocols before implementing them in the real world. The main reason of adopting this methodology is the cost and complexity involved in actual implementation. Simulator comes for the rescue by providing a virtual environment of the network comprising of nodes and links between them without incurring high costs. Selection of an appropriate simulator that suits one’s needs requires complete knowledge about them .This paper can aid the researchers in the selection of a simulator as per their requirements.
