Abstract
A substantial increase of photovoltaic (PV) power generators installations has taken place in recent years, due to the increase in efficiency of solar cells as well as the improvements in manufacturing technology of solar panels. A mathematical simulation model for a PV cell circuit in order to evaluate the electrical behavior of the cell with respect to changes on environmental parameters namely, temperature and irradiance has been developed and presented here. An accurate PV module electrical model is derived based on the Shockley diode equation. The general model was implemented on Matlab, and it accepts irradiance and temperature as variable parameters and outputs the I-V characteristics. Typical 1000W solar panel has been used for model evaluation. The results were compared with numerical curves and found to show an excellent matching, establishing the accuracy of the model.
