Abstract
In the restructured power systems, ancillary services markets have been established in most of the regions throughout the world. Ancillary services take part in a vital role in electricity market for the reliable and economic operation of the power system. For any imbalance in the supply and demand, the frequency of a system changes from its nominal value. Hence ancillary services are needed to maintain the frequency at its standard value. In this paper, a framework for ensuring power system reliability in competitive power markets is developed based on a market for frequency regulation ancillary services.
