The present work examines the reduction of harmonic distortion using various Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques. The seven level inverter using R and RL loads are proposed. As the number of level increases the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is decreases. Output voltage (line voltage VL and phase voltage VP) and current can be measured for all techniques. Seven level reduced switches topology has been carried out with only eight switches. Sine and trapezoidal or 600 references are used. Performance measures are like THD, VRMS (fundamental) and VPEAK are calculated for different modulation indices. Due to inductive load the output current waveform is looks like sinusoidal shape. It is observed that Phase Opposition (PD) PWM has relatively higher fundamental value. Simulation is performed through MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
