Optical Fiber offers very high bandwidth and gives excessive data transmission speed. In optical fiber communication system dispersion, losses, attenuation and non linear effects are the issues that degrade its performance. In this paper, dispersion compensating fibers (DCF) are used to compensate the positive dispersion of transmission fiber .The system has been stimulated and analyzed using pre , post and symmetrical dispersion compensation  methods for  10Gbps and 300 km  length of  optical fiber with 60 km of DCF. All three methods are compared in terms of different parameters such as Q-factor, BER, Eye height and Threshold value by using OptiSystem 7.0 simulator .It has been observed that the set-up require  proper matching between EDFA gain and length of fiber for best performance.
