No Abstract.The Indian pharmaceutical market is swamped with many branded and generic drugs which look-alike and sound-alike. These are a nightmare for healthcare professionals who deal with them. These drugs overlap in strength, dosage, indications, and storage conditions and packaging as well. The risks due to look-alike, sound-alike drug names result when a pharmacist or healthcare professional accidentally gives the wrong drug or patients select the wrong drugs themselves due to similarity in the name or packaging of the drug. The present study was aimed at listing out the recent drugs which look-alike and sound-alike in the Indian pharmaceutical market and also highlight various regulatory guidelines which are available in selected countries.Full Text

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, known as BRICS countries, are on a progressive path not only in terms of economy, but also in terms of publishing scientific and engineering research publications. The literature search shows that 17.3% share of the world’s research papers in science and engineering is contributed by the BRICS countries. India is in the second position amongst these countries in terms of publishing research papers in science and engineering. Patenting trends and amount spent on research and development by BRICS countries are also encouraging. Many of the multinational pharmaceutical companies have seen highest growth in terms of revenue in the BRICS countries. Taking note of all these aspects, the present study was aimed at comparing the research output of India with other BRICS countries in terms of research publications in the area of pharmacology, toxicology and pharmaceutics.Full Text
