Abstract
Malaria has been an enemy of humans for thousands of years and remains a major public health problem in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Description of malaria-like symptoms of periodic fever can be found as far back as in Chinese texts (2700 BC), writings from Mesopotamia (2000 BC), Egypt (1570 BC) and Indian Vedic scriptures (600 BC).
