Antibiotic residues and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) can be accumulated in sediments. In this study, an improved bibliometric analysis was used to evaluate publications on antibiotics in sediments from the aspects of major countries, subject categories and keywords during 1958–2016. The results indicate that USA and China dominated studies in the recent period from 2005 to 2016. The most representative journal and subject category were Applied and Environmental Microbiology and Environmental Science and Ecology respectively. ARGs and antibiotic resistance bacteria involving mechanism such as sorption, adsorption and biodegradation were the mainstream research areas. Keywords
