In a world characterized by rapid change, uncertainty and increasing interconnectedness, there is a growing need for science to contribute to the solution of persistent, complex systems. As the disease pathogenesis of diabetes is heterogeneous and highly complex, both its prevention as well as management require solutions from transdisciplinary fields.
