To support rural development programmes, the ability of farmers should be increased through systematic training so that they may understand each component of the recommended technologies. In Tapi district farmers were obtaining very low yield in gram. Low productivity of gram was due to lack of knowledge about scientific cultivation, poor nutrient management and lack of knowledge in IPDM. The gram cultivation is highly profitable in tribal dominated areas of the Surat and Tapi district. This crop is also advisable to the farmers for improvement of the soil physical, chemical and biological health. The human health point of view this crop is highly advisable to the people of the tribal region to control the diseases related to the mal nutrition and deficiency syndromes. The study was undertaken in Tapi district of South Gujarat. The results regarding overall knowledge of gram indicated that the low, medium and high level of knowledge before contact with KVK was 78.00 per cent, 16.00 per cent and 06.00 per cent, respectively and it was increased up to 08.00 per cent, 10.00 per cent and 82.00 per cent after contact with KVK. In case of knowledge regarding selected scientific innovations for gram high knowledge regarding selected scientific innovations were found viz., 87.00 per cent regarding new high yielding varieties, 83.00 per cent for integrated nutrient management, 81.00 per cent land configuration and 78.00 per cent seed rate, respectively. Majority of the farmer had low level of knowledge (76.00 per cent) before contact with KVK. After contact with KVK, 84.00 per cent of the farmers had high level of knowledge. 89.00 per cent of the farmer had adopted new high yielding variety fallowed by land configuration (85.00 per cent), INM (83.00 per cent), seed rate (82.00 per cent) and so on. From the above discussion, it could be inferred that after imparting training and other intensive approach by KVK, Tapi, majority (82.00 per cent) of the tribal farmers of these area had high knowledge level and majority (84.00 per cent) of the tribal farmers of these area had high adoption level about package of practices of gram crop. At the end it can be suggested this crop in the region is an important for increasing the income, improving the soil health, fertility and productivity and also to raise the standard of living of the tribes. The technology index indicates the feasibility of evolved technology at the farmer's field. Lower the value of technology index, more is the feasibility of the technology demonstrated. As such reduction of technology index from 48.92 per cent (2008-09) to 45.00 per cent (2010-11) exhibited the feasibility of technology demonstrated. Keywords

Kitchen gardening plays an imperative role for rural families to recover diversified vegetables in their daily diet. Demonstrations on kitchen gardening have distorted the eye site of the tribal farm women among health and hygienic safety measures. The KVK Tapi had demonstrated the kitchen gardening in tribal area. Since last three years about 150 FLDs on kitchen gardening were undertaken. To know the impact of the alleged technology along with constraints faced by tribal farm women the attempt were made. FLDs on kitchen gardening have paved the way of healthier, long, prosperous and biodegradable life of the tribal farm women. The results seen the overall knowledge of kitchen gardening indicated that the low, medium and high level of knowledge before contact with KVK was 85.00 per cent, 11.00 per cent and 04.00 per cent, respectively. It was altered up to 07.00 per cent, 13.00 per cent and 80.00 per cent, respectively after contact with KVK. In case of knowledge regarding selected scientific innovations for kitchen gardening high knowledge regarding selected scientific innovations were found except IPM. The perusal of data indicated that majority of the tribal farm women had low level of knowledge (75.00 %) before contact with KVK. After contact with KVK, 89.00 per cent of the tribal farm women had high level of knowledge. At the end it can be suggested that these FLDs in the region found an important for increasing the income, improving the soil health, fertility and productivity and also to raise the standard of living of the tribes. However, some constraints were also faced by tribal farm women in adoption of kitchen gardening in scientific way. The constraints faced by them were categorized input constraints, technical constraints, socio-cultural and post harvest constraints, respectively in rank order as per their perception. The input constraints were the most important constraints and were ranked in first position which needs to be solved for betterment of the tribes in the region. Keywords

Women are the critical input in livestock management. Women's involvement in livestock production is a long standing tradition in India, where domestic animals have been an integral part of the family farming system. Although most of the work related to dairy farming is carried out by the women; their role has been ignored. Hence, the study on analysis of different roles performed by the rural women and the factors affecting them are of paramount importance to the planners, decision makers, governments and extension workers involved in the process of rural development. Keeping this fact in view, the present study has, therefore, been premeditated and undertaken in Navsari district of the South Gujarat with specific objectives. The frequency of involvement of tribal farm women was seen the highest in cutting and bringing a fodder followed by compost making, watering, feeding, milking to animals, cleaning of cattle shed and so on. The relationship between independent variables of the respondents and their involvement in animal husbandry was found negative for all of the independent variables except type of family. Selection of fodder and feed was dominantly decided by farm women followed by sale of milk and its products, whereas the decisions regarding sale and purchase of animal, selection of animal breed and keeping herd size of herd were taken jointly by family members. Keywords

The present investigation was confined to Anand district of Gujarat state. The information need of the 100 rice growers was measure using three point continuums. Major area of information needs as expressed by the rice growers in descending order of rank were plant protection measures, marketing, schedule of water supply by canal, fertilizer management, water management, preparation of seedlings, variety, land preparation and sowing, supportive facts, harvesting and post harvesting technology and weed management. It was observed from the same table that majority of the rice growers have expressed their information needs about identification, nature of damage and control measures for insects/pests as well as diseases of rice crop; price of insecticides/pesticides; integrated pest management and method of preparing solutions of insecticides/pesticides. They articulated high need for information on market price followed by quality parameters that affects price and time of market inflow. It can be seen that the rice growers expressed their needs for information about subsidies, insurance and government policies related to rice cultivation. Keywords

The present investigation was confined to Anand district of Gujarat state. The information need of the 100 rice growers was measure using three point continuums. With a view to know the information behaviour of the rice growers, the study was undertaken in five villages of Anand district. The study concluded that use of information sources, extension participation, land under rice cultivation and cosmopoliteness were the important independent variables affecting information need of the rice growers. Majority of the respondents expressed plant protection measures, marketing, schedule of water supply by canal, fertilizer management and irrigation management as the important areas of information needs. Keywords
