The student perceptions and preferences regarding the suitability of various instructional methods reveal the effectiveness of the each teaching method in their respective fields of study. A study conducted among the post graduate agricultural students, belonging to life science and social science streams, of Kerala Agricultural University disclosed their preferences regarding the presently followed instructional methods. It was found that both life science and social science students showed favourable attitudes towards active learning methods like discussions, practical sessions, demonstrations and field visits. The findings of the study and the suggestions put forward by respondents will help the agricultural universities to look into their instructional methods and modify the curricula in ways that would improve student learning.Keywords

Jackfruit is a super food that is truly organic, nutrition packed and that gives a good yield without substantial input. However, the public has not utilized its possibilities, commercially and nutritively. Resultantly much of this nutrition-packed fruit and its parts are wasted, making jackfruit an underutilized fruit crop. Kerala government declared jackfruit as the state fruit crop in March 2018. In this circumstance, the present study was taken upto explore the nutrition knowledge of the farmers and non-farmers regarding jackfruit and its various parts. The study was conducted by randomly selecting 65 farmers and 65 non-farmers from the various Panchayats of Chavakkad, Ollukkara, Puzhakkal and Kodakara blocks of Thrissur district in Kerala state. Assessment of the knowledge score indices showed that significant difference existed between the trained and untrained non-farmers as well as the among trained and untrained farmer populations. Also, it was seen that the females showed higher knowledge score indices among the non-farmers.This study urges the government and the concerned departments to conduct more trainings and awareness campaigns on the nutritional aspects of jackfruit so that it can contribute to local food security, can create additional income to farming families and SHGs through value addition and marketing and enable the agripreneurs to start new enterprises based on it, thus, augmenting the rural economy.Keywords

This study was conducted to analyse the utilization pattern of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among the agricultural extension personnel of Kerala. Data were collected from 150 Agricultural Officers working in different districts of Kerala. It was observed that 66 per cent of the extension personnel were females, more than two-third of the extension personnel (71.33%) had only medium level of innovation proneness. Almost three-fourth (74.66%) of the extension personnel did not receive trainings related to ICTs. With regard to the attitude towards ICTs, majority (86.66%) of the extension workers were under medium category. The ICT tools with low extent of accessibility were decision support system, video camera, video conferencing and kiosk, with less than 25 per cent. The respondents were evenly distributed among the categories of very less frequent users, less frequent users, frequent users with 26 per cent each and most frequent users with 22 per cent only. More than 70 per cent of the respondents spent 1-5 hrs per week in using various ICT tools.Keywords
