Field experiment was conducted at College of Agriculture, Dhule to test the effect of EM and decomposing culture on decomposition of different crop wastes viz., soybean straw, weed (Parthenium), banana plant waste material, sunflower waste, sugarcane trash, cotton stalk and bajra stubble. Composting materials were analysed at 90 days for various physical,chemical and biological parameters by adopting standard procedures. Soybean straw decomposed at earliest with significantly maximum moisture content, highest weight loss and containing highest amount of nitrogen, humic acid, fulvic acid, CO2 evolution rates and microbial population. Among the cultures used EM culture shown superiority over decomposing culture.Keywords

An incubation study under ambient conditions and simultaneously pot culture experiment on soybean was conducted to observe the availability of phosphorus from rock phosphate due to acidulation effect caused by the sulphure and microorganism like PSB and EM. It was to ascertain the possibility of making use of rock phosphate (low grade) for direct use in soil application were tested in highly phosphorus consumptive soybean crop. The RP @ 75 kg ha was applied in the soil (3 kg) in bowl. The treatments were comprised of application of graded levels of elemental S (0, 30, 60 kg ha-1) with and without PSB or EM or PSB + EM. The soils were incubated for 90 days under ambient condition with keeping moisture at field capacity. The results indicated that highest available phosphorus content in RP + S60 + PSB which was at par with RP + S30 + PSB + EM, suggests that 30 kg S along with PSB and EM was the best treatment for phosphorus release through solubilization of RP and increase availability of phosphorus to soybean.Keywords

A field experiment was conducted on vertisol during the year 2005-06 at Mahatma Phule Agriculture University, Rahuri, to study the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth and biochemical properties of sugarcane (Cv.Co. 86032). The use of biofertilizers (PSB, Azotobacter, Acetobacter and Azospirillum) either individually or in combinations alongwith FYM (25 t ha-1) and RDF (500:170:127 N, P2O5 and K2O kg ha-1, respectively). These treatments of integration of nutrient supply were found to be superior in improving the growth of sugarcane and also superior in enhancing the total leaf chlorophyll content, NR activity of sugarcane leaves and nutrient uptake as compared to organic or chemical treatment only. The results indicated that the integrated use of chemical fertilizers along with FYM and biofertilizers (Azotobacter, Acetobacter and Azospirilum) enhanced the plant growth, total chlorophyll content and NR activity of sugarcane.Keywords
