Abstract

The present study was carried out in In-vitro antioxidant effects of the Petroleum Ether, Ethanol, and Methanolic flower extracts of Cassia auriculata L . The powder of flower of Cassia auriculata L was extracted sequentially with petroleum ether, ethanol and methanol using Soxhlet extractor and it was subjected to preliminary phytochemical studies for the identification of phytoconstituents by chemical tests. Antioxidant activity of the extract was evaluated by using Diphenyl picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, and reducing power methods. The extracts of Cassia auriculata L had shown good DPPH (1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) radical scavenging activity. BHA was used as standard antioxidant and positive control. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the extracts was increased with the increasing concentration, the reducing power of extracts was carried out with ascorbic acid as a standard reducing agent. The Methanolic extract of Cassia auriculata L exhibited higher scavenging and reducing power than the other extracts. All the analysis was made with the use of UV Visible Spectrophotometer (Systronics 117, India). The observation suggest that the flower of Cassia auriculata L extracts has potent dose dependent anti oxidant activity, thus the Ethanobotanical claim of the plant being used in the cardio vascular disorder, muscle build up, nephro protection, anti inflammatory and as an aphrodisiac may be in part due to the antioxidant activity and also the presence of saponins and traces of Flavanoids ascertains that the Anti-oxidant activity.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to analyse the antioxidant effect of oral administration of aqueous extract of Morinda tinctoria (MTR) fresh fruits on blood glucose, haemoglobin, glycosylated haemoglobin, plasma insulin, antioxidant enzymes and lipid peroxidation in liver and kidney to streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Aqueous extract of Morinda tinctoria (MTR) on blood glucose, haemoglobin, glycosylated haemoglobin, plasma insulin, serum lipid and the levels of lipid peroxides and antioxidant enzymes, such as catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and reduced glutathione, were examined in the liver and kidney tissues of control and experimental groups. Oral administration of Morinda tinctoria (MTR) aqueous extract to diabetic rats for 30 days significantly reduced the levels of blood glucose, lipids and lipid peroxidation, but increased the activities of plasma insulin and antioxidant enzymes, like catalase, superoxide dismutase, reduced glutathione and glutathione peroxidase. The Morinda tinctoria (MTR) aqueous extract supplementation is useful in controlling the blood glucose level, improves the plasma insulin, lipid metabolism and is beneficial in preventing diabetic complications from lipid peroxidation and antioxidant systems in experimental diabetic rats; therefore, it could be useful for prevention or early treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Medicinal plants contribute in human health care system. Most of the plants utilizes by village people as a folk medicine. Now we are turned in to medicinal plant analysis of active compounds and conservation aspect. In the present study we had select the three important medicinal plants. We have collected three medicinally important medicinal plants such as Coleus amboinicus, Phyla nodiflora and Vitex negundo for antimicrobial studies. The experiment carried out in the selected medicinal plants leaves. The results are discussed with the available literature.
